Theme: Your Thoughts on Organ Donation

Artist statement:

My piece is about the heart being in full bloom. Having the courage to donate your organs is no easy feat. Many are understandably uncomfortable with the idea of taking a piece of you which is essential to your survival and giving it to sometimes, strangers. Hence, I feel that for some who are willing to donate their organs, their hearts have nurtured utmost selflessness.

Flowers are a common sight in the columbarium, as a way of showing respect for the deceased. Therefore, the presence of flowers in the artwork is also a symbol of honouring the deceased donors and expressing gratitude towards their bravery and kindness.

The puzzle-esque colourful background is meant to represent how challenging it is to find a suitable donor. WIth so many different shapes and colours, finding the perfect match is no easy task.
