Artist statement:

My artwork paints the picture of two girls, a donor and a recipient, clad in hospital gowns. In between them is a glowing heart. The brunette is the donor, arms lurched forward, giving away her heart. On the other hand, the patient receives it gratefully. The bright light emitted by the heart shines on her face, symbolising her being filled with life and vibrancy. The girl who is gifted the heart grows bright red wings and is flying upwards, into the light. She is a phoenix that has been rebirthed.

Phoenix is a mythological creature that is born again after its death. It rises from its own ashes, starting a new life. It symbolises strength, renewal, and hope. Its most distinct feature is its bright red feathers. By giving the girl her heart, the donor allows her to be renewed and start a new life, a new beginning.
