Artist statement:

The design pays tribute to organ donors and patients who undergo organ donation and transplantation, with the heart featured as it represents both the organ itself, as well as the gratitude and sincerity shared by patients and organ donors! Home is where the heart is; utilising warm colours, I hope to convey a sense of homeliness and warmth, and this is echoed in the shophouse-inspired designs we used for the heart. The iconic shophouse is a reminder of the kampong spirit of Singaporeans and is unique as it serves dual functions as both a place of residence and commerce. This mirrors the function of the human heart, which serves as the central organ in our circulatory system and plays the important role of supplying oxygen, while removing carbon dioxide and other wastes from our blood stream, hosting this key transaction that keeps us alive! Keeping true to the physical anatomy of the heart, the four rooms represents the four chambers of the heart. These rooms reflect the hopeful possibilities of life and New Beginnings that are birthed when we support organ donation and empower others to live on!
