Artist statement:

I decided to do this piece as Japanese culture sparked my interest. To some, animals mean longevity and to others, they mean strength. My main goal for this piece is to bring a calming image. Usually, when someone hears anything relating to organ donation, they will panic and be fearful of the idea. This is why I drew a boat, because to me, donating an organ is like a boat ride, a waiting process. I want others to be encouraged to donate an organ, because just like a boat ride, you can either survive the ride or die in the process of it. I drew organs on the lotuses, to show that organs are like blooming lotuses, they have a life. Cranes in the sky represent happiness and eternal youth, to give the people on the boat ride good fortune and longevity. The koi fishes represent strength of character and perseverance, despite all the waves in the water, it gives you hope to make it through the boat ride.
