Artist statement:

The artwork depicts the innocence of a child, whose heart continues to live on in others. The heart on the swing defines a multitude of emotions: the swing representing playfulness and child-like wonder typical of one her age, the absent stare showing a longing for her family she will no longer be able to touch, the heart to represent the kindness and gentleness that still beats on... The heart yearns to be home, yet there is sadness knowing that she can never go back. However, this is not a sad story. It is filled with warmth and compassion and a hope for a better tomorrow. Her innocence, her longing and dreams will be fulfilled when her heart gives life to another. Another child will go home happily to their parents, and this heart can sleep soundly, knowing that those dreams and desires are fulfilled in another.
