Artist statement:

My drawing of a set of lungs symbolises a bridge of hope. The lungs help us live and that is what organ donation does for individuals. One side of the lungs is brightly coloured, meant to represent the positivity of the organ donor and the hope they bring. The other side, in constrast, is monochrome and it represents the negative feelings people with organ failure feel, with the specific feelings written on it. A figure helping the other figure up and bringing the bright colours into the other side of the lung signifies the organ donor pulling the person with organ failure to cross over the ‘bridge’ of negativity, and out of the darkness, into the light by giving them hope that things will get better. The yellow veins going into the parts of the lung show that the positivity is slowly but surely helping the person.
