Artist statement:

The two trees represent a pair of lungs. However the lungs on each side are of different worlds. One is the world of the person who needs the donated lungs and the other represents the world of the donor. The tree that has no leaves and is dying represents the patient that is in desperate need of a pair of lungs. As if the person’s world is tearing him apart, the night sky and dark clouds that are about to rain represents the turmoil that the patient is going through with the feelings of uncertainty and fear. In contrast, on the other side of the world, there is a tree that is well nourished and healthy. This represents the donor’s healthy lungs and the sanctity of life as the donor ascends to heaven peacefully with the background as the sun rises. The intertwining roots of the trees represent a bridge of hope for the patient that needs the lungs and the intertwining fate that they faced.
