Artist statement:
My artwork shows two hands, one grey (lifeless) with patches of healthy skin and another full of life and healthy skin colour. These two hands represent the patient and the donor. The artwork is seen as two hands surrounding a heart that is like a honey comb filled with thriving insects and plants. The heart is made in this way to depict life, wherever the heart goes, and no matter which vessel it beats for, it always carries the light and life with it. The donor’s hand is seen giving the heart to the patient’s hand. I also made it look like the roots of the heart leaving the donor and gripping and wrapping itself onto the patient’s hand, as if it is transferring the life source to this patient and giving him or her a second chance for a new life. I called it the risk because on both sides, be it the patient or the donor, there are risks they must consider and be willing to go through. This art piece shows the risk that both sides are willing to take and the possibilities for life and freedom if they take the risk, especially for the patients. I hope this artwork motivates the patients to be less afraid, and be more hopeful for a better future ahead.
