Artist statement:

When I thought about organs, the first thing I thought about was the heart. And a battery came to my mind when I thought about everyday things, the root of energy that powers a product, just like how the heart “powers” the whole body to work. At the positive and negative terminal point of the battery, I wanted to represent a sort of electric and blood at the same time, so I decided to go with simple and cute hearts that represented both. From my research, oxygen rich blood is brighter in red than oxygen poor blood. So, the heart coming out of the positive terminal has more “electric” and “oxygen filled blood” and the negative terminal takes in the “oxygen poor blood”. This also represents the heart pumping out oxygen rich blood throughout the body and giving it energy. For the color choice, I went with colours that are not too bright as to contrast to the brighter background. For the main battery, I went with red and blue which are the colours I thought about when I think about a real heart.
