Artist statement:
Organ transplant patients go through a very rough time. From battling health issues to finding the right donor for them, their lives will be filled with many uncertainties. This is represented by the galaxy and fog in my artwork, as it hinders the hospital patient from finding her way out of the darkness. The horns on her head are a symbol of endurance from her hardship. However, thanks to the transplant, the new heart she carries brightens her path - like the lucky lantern she holds, ensuring that she can find her way to happiness. Paper origami cranes surround her, symbolising longevity for her to stay healthy forever. Finally, hands of other people emerge in the dim background carrying paper lanterns, as a symbol of good fortune and a tool to light the patient's way to a better life. It also shows that there are still people in this world willing to help such patients, telling them that they are not alone in their struggle for better health.
