Artist statement:
“Everyday”, is the main symbol of organ donation I wanted to express in my digital illustration. Through which, I aimed to represent the “everyday-ness” of organs.
Though used everyday, an organ is easily overlooked & taken for granted. To me, an organ is like a teapot. Specific in nature, useful, yet so easily replaced in exchange for something bigger, better, newer.
Such a simple object is used ‘everyday’, just like our organs - yet both are taken for granted. ‘Everyday’ personifies the broken teapot, bringing its coming and goings to life through tiny characters.
Cracked and old, teapot is easily replaced by kettle. The two are clearly of different origins, and will not function in the same way. Teapot’s heart bleeds, bruised and battered beyond repair. Velvet red petals fall out, their colour symbolic of an organ's sacrifice and passion. The water level only seeks to remind it of its time left.
“Everyday” seeks to express the emotions of organs, and to remind us all that an organ, above all, is representative of our everyday life. To see, to feel, to love, and to live. Sometimes, we forget that it is thanks to our organs that we may appreciate the beauty of life.
So let us celebrate, for an organ is more than just an object. It is a function, a life, and the reason we live.
