Artist statement:

Organ transplantation not only signifies the start of a new life but also represents the passing of life, from the hands of the demising donor to the hands of the recipient in need. If the donated heart could express itself, it would promise the donor, “Although you are passing away, I would continue your life on the recipient”. In my artwork, the dead trunks and branches drawn on the hands of the donor representing the life passing away. From the hands, the branches extend to the heart, representing the blood vessels. In addition, there is a transition of colours in the heart, from cooler colours such as purple and blue to warmer colours such as yellow, red and orange.

It represents the heart, gradually becoming more lively, bringing hope and new life to the recipient, like how it promised the donor. The left atrium of the heart is drawn as a flower, specifically a rose. It represents courage and the beauty of the blossoming of life. Vines symbolise strength and determination. It not only expresses the strength of life and the determination of the recipient to live on, but also expresses the heart’s desire to continue the life of the donor. To add on, the vines are growing towards the source of light. This sunlight represents the hope and the future of the recipient, as the heart will bring the recipient a new life.
