Artist statement:

A lotus carries many symbolisms, as a symbol of purity, self-regeneration and rebirth. The lotus here is used as a symbol to represent the donated organs, and the new life it offers. This flower is often revered for its resilience and its beauty because a lotus can only grow in dirty and murky waters but it will manage to surpass the water to produce a perfect flower. Similar to the growth of a lotus, the patient emerging from the lotus symbolises the one who overcame pain with a second chance to live when offered an organ transplant.

With this new life, one is once again reborn, brought into a new life with vast colourful opportunities, presented in a seemingly new world. Vibrant and warm colours are mainly used in this illustration to evoke a sense of joy, warmth and optimism. Additionally, the presence of ‘planets’ in this new world surrounding the patient were drawn to resemble the different cells present in our body. Thus, representing this new beginning and joyous celebration of new life.
