Artist statement:

My artwork displays a scene of a young person holding their failing heart. I chose to draw them stargazing together as that is what I have always wanted to do. Due to light pollution in cities, I have never really been to a place with a star-filled night sky before. I think it would be very nice to go see the stars with a loved one, so it is one of the most significant things I would want to do in my life. Therefore, I think it would be heartwarming for the person to bring their organ companion on this trip. I purposely drew him holding his heart at the chest area, quite literally where the heart is located at, and also further highlighting their close relationship. I want to use this person to show how I would want to express my gratitude to my organs for supporting me as much as they could, by accompanying them to try out something I have never experienced before. I hope the organ failure patients will be able to see themselves in this character.
