Artist statement:

The forefront of the piece is a girl in school uniform, who just received the organ she needed to return back to her simple daily life. This was a privilege that was not afforded to her when she needed a heart, this was a right she finally got back when she received her organ transplant. Dawn breaking in the background signifies the beginning of a new day, the start of a new journey towards a better future for her, unhindered by her need for an organ. This, along with the HDB blocks and hospital juxtaposed behind her, the place that was her life before, and the place that her life was during the time she needed an organ respectively, emphasises the organ transplant's importance to the recipient. The need for an organ can ruin lives, taking away the simplest things like the ability to live in one's own home, and even go to school, but the journey to receiving an organ and the time afterwards is undeniably, an irrevocably transformative journey.
