The Last Catch, Watercolour
Theme: My Organ, My Companion
Merit, School Category, 2023

Artist statement:
The last catch depicts the last journey of the damaged, failed liver with its owner. They are on a boat, and the fishing represents finding hope that the people with liver failure is able to have a new chance at life. The failed organ is accompanying its owner for the last time on a journey to attempt to have a “good catch” for a new, healthy organ. The damaged liver is holding a bright lantern, as it is the final thing it can do for the owner before leaving the world. It also represents how the damaged liver is showing the owner to hold on and it is trying to be the glimmer of hope for the owner and that it is not the end. Fishing takes a lot of patience just like how waiting for an organ transplant takes a lot of willpower, patience and faith to hold on. If they hold on long enough, they will soon have a “good catch”. The shooting stars symbolise positivity, happiness and renewal. The unidentified figure on the boat represents all the people with organ failure, holding on and wishing for an organ transplant.
