Artist statement:

This artwork depicts the donation of a heart that helps to save the dream of a dancer. It shows an organ donor’s heart, shaped like a yarn ball, being used to mend the life of the dancer, represented by the music box stage. The donor, wearing hospital blue, sews and rebuilds the stage for the dancer while she herself slowly fades away. The stage represents the dancer’s life, continuing until the music box’s melody, symbolising time, stops. I used gouache paint to create a strong black background, the reddish-brown wood on the music box helps with the transition to the red yarn. The ray of light from the heart symbolises hope for the dancer’s dream.
