Artist statement:

This artwork encapsulates the poignant moment of a heart transplant, symbolising the enduring gift of life. Glass is a material that is fragile yet strong. In this work, the glass heart suggests the vulnerability yet durability of the precious human organ. The process of heart transplantation, particularly in Singapore, necessitates organs from donors who have experienced brain death, which is very rare. The boy - the recipient - grapples with conflicting emotions, feeling hopeful as he can continue his life while saddened by the fact that a person has passed away. In contrast, the angel - the donor - exudes serene tranquility. By signing the organ donation form, she embraces the knowledge that her legacy would endure, offering solace and hope to those in need. Through her selfless act, the power of her organs immortalises a legacy of compassion and altruism, resonating across time in the community.
