Artist statement:

The life within a battery glows (symbolising a heart) as it is passed from one figure to another, sustaining life. The recipient, with an electrocardiogram monitor for a head, displays an electrocardiogram line turning into a heart, representing the recipient's gratitude. The empty socket on her chest signifies heart failure. In the water’s reflection, it is revealed that the donor had suffered brain death, yet the electrocardiogram line shows his heart still beating, having the potential of giving someone else a second chance. The recipient’s reflection radiates joy, showing the hope that follows. Golden tears of gratitude ripple outward from the recipient’s parents, inspiring a growing line of future donors. Connected by a line, they ascend alongside butterflies, symbols of transformation and renewal. The butterfly-shaped border and flowers in the foreground represent the flourishing life made possible through organ donation. This ripple effect extends far beyond a single moment, turning gratitude into advocacy, generosity, and lasting change.
