Artist statement:
The girl on the right personifies gratitude, with simplified hydrangea-like flowers and doves emphasising this. The floating ribbons show the beauty of gratitude, being the same as the ones used on the wrapped gifts. My artwork features a duality; one side represents simple acts of kindness, while the other reflects the long lasting impact of organ donation, which goes beyond just a simple act of kindness. Stars scattered throughout the artwork pay tribute to the lucky paper stars presented to organ donor families during Donor Appreciation Ceremonies. Her calculated dance moves symbolise the careful consideration and precision necessary for organ donation surgery, representing the life-saving nature of the surgical process where every step counts. The art dummy dancing alongside her symbolises organ donors, showing that transplants can transform lives across all ages and genders. The golden organs within the doll signify their priceless value and the good they can bring. Overall, I hope that my artwork features a surreal feeling, illustrating how receiving an organ transplant can truly feel like a dream come true for those in need.
