Artist statement:

A young girl is holding a vase which has a heart containing flower petals. From the heart blooms many flowers, each symbolising hope, life and renewal. The donor uses his hand to shield the girl from rain, showing how compassionate organ donors are, and the amount of care and support organ donors give to recipients. Abstract cells surround them in the background, symbolising the power of organ donation, even on a microscopic level. The ray of light shining on the vase symbolises hope for the future, amidst a sea of darkness and tragedy. The girl is walking forward, showing how the love and gratitude is passed on from one recipient to another. The entire artwork symbolises the hope organ donors give to recipients despite a sea of darkness, and how this feeling of hope is passed down from one recipient to another, showing the vast impact every organ donor has on recipients.
