Artist statement:
This painting depicts how a donated organ can save another person's life. The smaller images represent the second chances given to people who receive these organs. Someone who receives an organ donation can continue their life and do activities they were previously unable to do due to their organ failure - such as running in races, going for family picnics, watching sunsets, starting a family, falling in love, and more. In addition, the smaller illustrations also show how recipients can express gratitude to their donors — like creating a jar filled with 'thank you' notes or writing letters to the donors (or the donor's family). The main object in the artwork is a heart in the shape of a flower being handed from one person to another, symbolising the act of organ donation. The black background represents the emotions possibly felt by the family of someone who had donated their organs, at the background of the other feelings such as joy, gratitude and so on. The butterfly symbolises the new life granted to the recipient - a second chance. The colourful bubbles containing various organs show the different types of organs that can be donated (along with the heart).
