Artist statement:
Everyone wants to stay connected to Wi-Fi - whether it is for watching shows, scrolling through social media, or playing online games. But in my artwork, the Wi-Fi symbol takes on a different purpose: it represents the connected gratitude of the families of deceased organ donors and living organ donors. The large Wi-Fi signal at the centre is made up of four major organs, each donated by a different deceased donor. At the base of the Wi-Fi symbol is a heart outlined in blue and filled with smaller hearts. This symbolises the immense love and gratitude felt by the families of deceased donors even though their loved one is gone, their selfless act has profoundly changed another person’s life—offering them renewed hope and a chance to be healthy again. In each corner of the artwork is a hand, representing living donors. These are individuals who, after hearing the stories of deceased donors, have chosen to donate their organs when they pass on. This powerful, selfless decision brings them a sense of peace and gratitude, knowing they are helping others live the life they never had. In doing so, they carry forward a legacy of organ donation - one grounded in hope, gratitude, and love. All around the artwork, there are many hearts in different colours, this shows how all those who receive these donated organs are filled with gratitude knowing that they are able to carry on a journey that someone else had not been able to experience.
