Artist statement:
This artwork simply expresses the life-giving and grateful spirit of organ donation. At the centre of the piece, two hands are tightly clasped together, forming a beating heart. Above the heart, there is a lily, symbolising purity, hope, and rebirth. The lilies surrounding the heart represent the gentle and grateful nature of life’s transmission through organ donation. The hands in the four corners of the image represent different people involved in the organ donation process: The hand in the top right, holding a surgical knife, symbolises the medical team's professionalism and responsibility. The hand in the top left represents the ordinary person, symbolising those who choose to donate their organs and save lives. The hand in the bottom right, holding a lily, symbolises the recipient’s gratitude and the rebirth of life. The hand in the bottom left, wearing a medical bracelet, represents the recipient who receives the life-saving donation. This piece aims to convey that through organ donation, someone's life is extended, alongside expressions of gratitude and connection.
