Artist statement:

This artwork imagines the perspective of a transplanted cornea at the moment it restores sight and reopens the window to the world. At the centre of the composition is a newly awakened eye, glistening with tears of joy as light and colour return. The invisible barrier that once blurred vision shatters into fragments, marking the powerful transition from darkness to clarity. Within these fragments are reflections of life’s vibrant moments – glimpses of experiences waiting to be seen again. Before sight returned, the body still explored the world through touch, smell, and sound. Yet when vision is restored, these familiar sensations gain new depth and meaning. Simple moments – watching fireworks bloom across the night sky, feeling sunlight on the skin, embracing loved ones, or cycling beside the water – transform into celebrations of healing, gratitude, and possibility. Colour is used as a language of emotion and memory. Each tone represents different feelings and experiences that shape a person’s life, merging together in harmony to reflect the richness of the human journey. White lilies bloom beside the shattered barrier, symbolising purity, healing, and renewal. They represent the quiet generosity of organ donation – a gift passed from one life to another, allowing darkness to give way to light and the world to be seen again.
