Artist statement:
My artwork represents the process of a patient getting a cornea transplant and learning to see colours and the world again. I used sharp shapes and bright saturated colours on the left side to show the chaos, confusion and sensory overload the patient experiences when seeing colours again. I created a very beautiful chaos as patients who receive a cornea are both awed and shocked at the brightness and sharpness of colours. The right side, however, contrasts the left and shows a more calm and realistic eye, showing how it has already adapted to these colours and is able to see colours more naturally now. The organic shaped blobs are rounder, showing the comfort the person has gained and doesn't feel like overwhelmed by colours. There is a silhouette of a person reaching out, symbolising hope, support, and the gift of a cornea donor, to give another person sight. The transition from sharp to smooth shapes represents the journey from chaos to clear vision and reconnecting with life.
