Artist statement:
This artwork explores the profound intersection of grief and rebirth. This piece visualises the stage return of a performer after a life-saving organ transplant. The composition plays heavily on dualities: the cold, distant memory of a hospital bed displayed on the background scene, and the immediate, radiant warmth of the stage lights. The vibrant orange lights symbolise a warmth of love that defies death. Framed through the lens of an audience, this work captures a spiritual truth that the recording cameras fail to see: the tangible, empowering presence of two deceased donors sitting beside the performer. Through symbolic elements - flower crowns woven with the donors’ distinct colours, hopeful sunflowers, heart-shaped ribbons, and luminous fireflies, the piece maps an invisible network of gratitude. It stands as an invitation to look past our screens and feel the enduring, collective warmth of human connection.
