Artist statement:

The pain of losing someone important is different. It’s an empty feeling when they’re gone; a missing piece in your heart. I believe every form of life is precious and significant. One of the most important people in our lives are our parents, who have given the most love to us and embraced every part of ourselves. What would happen if the child they once poured all their love into isn’t in their embrace anymore? No parent would want to lose their child, and no parent would want another parent to lose theirs.

This piece is from the perspective of a mother. The child in her arms survived a heart transplant and was given a new life. What she hears is another baby’s heartbeat, unfamiliar, every beat getting stronger as it adapts to the new body. A miracle is what she described it as, a gift of hope. What she sees is something only from her eyes. A baby emitting a light growing fainter, its energy accumulating into a candle light. Looking closer, she realised the flame was a heart, its image getting clearer and more blinding. The heart was shining upon her child, all the love, hope, and life given to her child. She couldn’t help but tear at the scene. The message I want to convey is the generosity from the donor, and the gratitude a mother would feel when she’s saved from the pain of losing her child.
