Artist statement:
This artwork is about how life and kindness can continue even after someone has passed away. The girl in the pond is not just a reflection, but someone who has already died. The pond has the shape of an eye, symbolising sight and how we see the world. The story connects three people. A dying stranger donates his heart to a girl with heart disease, giving her more time to live. When she later passes away, she donates her corneas to a young girl, allowing her to see the beauty of the world. The paper boat, made from a 'donate to save a life' poster, stands for hope and passing on kindness. Like a message floating on water, it shows how one act of giving can reach others and continue over time. The wings also have meaning. The girl who has passed on has full wings, showing peace and completion, while the young girl has one small, growing wing, showing that she will continue this act of kindness in the future. Overall, the artwork shows that even after death, a person can live on by helping others, and kindness can be passed from one life to another.
