Artist statement:
My artwork depicts a donated heart experiencing a new life, beating for a new body. There are six key scenes the heart picks out. A nostalgic bedroom welcoming the recovered organ recipient home. An array of daisies, bursting with the flavours of life, a nose extending from the heart, taking in the exciting aromas. On the right side, a scene seen from the recipient’s point of view, able to ride on a bicycle through the wilderness again, with flowers - daisies and rain lilies for joy and new beginnings, orchids for endurance and resilience, daffodils for rebirth and renewal - creating a border for the scene. A lively scene lies below it, both the performing and visual arts filling the space. An ear extends from the heart to the scene, listening to the music. At the bottom, an open journal, with pictures and words capturing a joyous life, lays on a desk with a hot drink in the corner. The top scene, one blurring between the past and present. The previous owner, with soft feathered off-white wings sprouting from her back, smiling as she sees how her altruistic act granted someone a second chance at life. With a bittersweet, calming sunset as her background, she ties together two threads of life. The recipient’s former erratic, dying heartbeat, connected to a new, stable line, by a heart.
