Artist statement:

My artwork depicts a transplant donor, a little girl, lying on her hospital bed at the bottom of the ocean. Her surroundings are bleak, blurry and dreary, shown by the lack of colour and clarity in the drawing. She looks upwards, reaching towards the fishes swimming above that carry mementos of her life, friendship bracelets, polaroids of friends and family and her clothes, things she's seeing for the first time thanks to the new pair of eyes she received. Painting the once dull landscape are two little eyeballs, their hands holding painting tools, determined to bring light into the environment and to the little girl’s life. This artwork shows the light, both literally and figuratively, cornea transplant can bring to a person’s life.
