Theme: Organic Perspectives

Artist statement:

My design transforms a human heart into a HDB block, symbolising how a donated organ becomes the core of someone’s new life. Just as the heart keeps the body alive, HDB blocks form the heart of many Singaporean communities. Within the windows of the heart-shaped HDB block, I illustrated everyday neighbourhood scenes such as an aunty hanging laundry, elderly residents playing mahjong, and a woman cooking at home. At the base of the heart is a coffeeshop, representing the familiar gathering place where people share conversations and daily routines. These scenes show how a transplanted heart becomes a quiet witness to ordinary yet meaningful moments in a community. Through organ donation, the recipient is given a second chance to experience the sights, sounds and rhythms of everyday life once again.
