Artist statement:

I made this artwork to motivate people to donate a kidney to people in need of it, to restore the patient's energy and livelihood. I believe organ donation is an important process that we should all be open to as it saves lives and will give others another chance at life. I created an artwork with one mechanical kidney to symbolise a new kidney from a donor and a distinctive red path coming out from one of its tubes. I also had one regular kidney which had pipes attached to one of its tubes. I put three small dancers in energetic and expressive positions to represent the new energy they now have from the new kidney. I placed a few small kidney stones floating around in the background, not attached to the kidneys themselves, to symbolise that the stones were now gone and there were no more problems to the body. My artwork shows the new energy and burden-free life that the recipient would have. I chose to use the pipes in the background not only as organic perspective but to also represent the aid that we relied on the machines for. The red path draws the audiences' attention from the kidneys to the energetic dancers at the bottom. I used proportion to make the kidneys more of a focal point. The dark red patches are like fixing the path and restoring energy to the person. I also tried to use unity in the pipes to connect the different parts of the artwork together. Most of the artwork is made up of cylinders and it also makes the rounder shapes of the kidneys stand out.
