Artist statement:

Many people often focus on the organ donor and the sacrifice they make, giving a part of themselves so that others may live, even though they had the choice not to. However, the donor’s family also goes through a difficult emotional journey. They experience the pain of losing a loved one while also feeling proud of the life-changing gift their loved one has given to others. The recipients of these organs are undoubtedly grateful for the second chance at life they receive. Yet, many of them may never have the opportunity to personally express their gratitude to the donor’s family. This artwork explores the connection between donors, recipients, and the families involved, showing how one person’s act of generosity can create hope and a new beginning for others. Organ donation is not only about the donor and the patient; it also deeply affects the people around them. It is a story of loss, love, sacrifice, and the power of giving life to others.
