Artist statement:
This artwork shows organ donation from the perspective of healthcare workers and the people around the patient. I wanted to show that organ donation does not only affect the donor and recipient, but also everyone who witness the journey. The hand symbolises doctors and nurses carefully guiding and supporting a patient through a difficult situation. The heart hanging by strings represents a fragile life being protected through medical care and compassion. The girl receiving blood symbolises hope, recovery and a second chance at life.
The colour transition from cool blue tones to warmer red tones reflects the change from sadness and uncertainty to warmth and healing. The roses blooming around the artwork symbolise how organ donation can help life continue to grow, even beyond the patient themselves. The strings connecting the different objects represent the invisible connections formed between donors, recipients, healthcare workers, families and even strangers who hear these stories. Through this artwork, I wanted to show the ripple effect of organ donation and how one selfless act can inspire care, compassion and unity within a community. Even people who are not directly involved can gain a deeper appreciation for life and kindness after seeing the impact of organ donation.
