Topic: A letter on a class celebration proposal
Award: Distinction, Junior Category, 2024
Dear Mrs Tan,
My classmates and I would like to organise a celebration for our Math teacher, Ms. Ang for her after her one-month leave. We are very motivated to organise this as she selflessly donated her kidney to an unknown stranger.
This news has impacted me as I did not think anyone would donate their kidney to a stranger. I feel very inspired by my teacher’s selflessness and generosity. Her act of kindness motivates me to be more compassionate and considerate. Ms. Ang’s act of donation serves as a powerful example of the importance of giving back and making a difference in the lives of others. Learning about Ms. Ang’s donation has deepened mine and my classmates’ empathy for others who are facing health challenges and those who are in need of an organ transplant. This has caused us to become more compassionate and understanding.
We would like to host the celebration in our classroom, S2/4. We would like to host this celebration in the second week when she returns, after school. The celebration will consist of different segments. First, a few students from S2/4 will be reciting a speech that they have written for Ms. Ang. Then, I will present a handmade card made by the whole class. We will also be providing food, such as Ms. Ang’s favourite food. We will be reaching out to her to find out what she enjoys eating. The class has split themselves into 4 groups of 6. The first group will handle decorations. The second group will manage the refreshments. The third group will handle the speech and the gift. And the last group will be in charge of inviting teachers, students and Ms. Ang’s family. We would be most appreciative if you could help us reach out to her family as it would be lovely for them to join in the celebration.
This celebration is a small way for us to show our appreciation for Ms. Ang’s remarkable act of kindness. We hope this celebration will convey our deepest gratitude and respect for her. The celebration is essential for several compelling reasons. Firstly, it serves to recognise and appreciate Ms. Ang's extraordinary act of selflessness and compassion in donating a kidney to a stranger, demonstrating to her that her actions are deeply valued by her students and the broader school community. Secondly, it provides an inspiring example for students, imparting lessons on the importance of altruism, empathy, and the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of others, thereby motivating students to engage in their own acts of kindness. Thirdly, the celebration fosters a sense of unity and support within the school, bringing together students and teachers to commemorate positive actions and cultivate a supportive environment. Additionally, it raises awareness about organ donation and its significant life-saving potential, educating students and staff and potentially encouraging others to consider becoming donors. Moreover, the act of recognising and celebrating positive deeds enhances morale among students and staff, fostering a positive atmosphere and reinforcing the values of kindness and generosity within the school community.
Thank you for considering my proposal. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter and discussing how we can proceed further. Please feel free to contact me at 9876 5432 or email me at abc@gmail.com. I will be most pleased to hear from you.
Warm regards,
Eva Fernandez
Class Chairperson
