Dear Aurelia,
I hope this doesn’t come off as weird, but I’ve been meaning to reach out. You made a huge impact on my life before you knew it.
First of all, I want to say how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I can’t imagine what you’re feeling right now, but I wanted to write this to let you know — you are not alone. Your father’s passing has probably inspired and touched so many people out there, more than you think — and I’m one of them.
When I read the article of your dad donating his organs, I thought that was the kindest thing anyone has ever done. Even at the hardest time, he gave six other people another chance in life. That’s not just brave or kind, that’s profoundly human and it really made me realise that there are so many kind people out there, who are willing to sacrifice themselves, and I think that is the most beautiful thing known to mankind. It reminded me that even in the hardest times, some people still choose to help, give and love. And honestly, when I read that article, I wasn’t surprised at all. Because I’ve seen that exact same kindness in you too.
I still remember that day. It was an afternoon, I was in the school library, stressing over the following day’s test. It was in less than a day, yet I didn’t understand half of the syllabus. I was hunched over my notes, completely stressed. Just then, you walked in with a Milo packet in one hand and asked casually, “Hey wanna go through it together?” I didn’t even ask, but you sat down, helped me through it, and actually made it make sense.
You didn’t even have to help, you weren’t obliged to, but you did.
No show, no drama, just heart. That stuck with me.
That day, you reminded me that kindness doesn’t always come with big speeches or a pile of money. Sometimes, it just shows up when you need it the most. And now, reading what your father has done, it’s clear where you got it from.
If you are ever in the dumps and just want to talk, vent, or just have company, you know where to find me. I’m always around, I’ll even bring the Milo.
Just a reminder, but you don’t have to have all the answers right now. Take all the time you need, feel everything, heal in your own way. But please remember, your father’s legacy lives in you, and that’s something truly special.
Be proud of him, and the person you already are right now.
So, whenever things get heavy and you need a friend or just some silent company, you’ll know where I’ll be. Always rooting for you.
With warmth and support,
Katelyn
