Live On Festival 2022
Expression; Everyday Things
2022 marks the fifth edition of the annual Live On Festival (LOF). A total of 107 secondary schools participated, with 2,341 artworks and 1,935 essays received across the school and open categories.
Design
The themes for the design competition are "Expression" and "Everyday Things". "Expression" refers to what donated/ failed organs would do if they have the ability to express themselves. The second theme, "Everyday Things", showcases the objects, activities or situations in our surroundings that reflect the functions of organs.

Essay
The creative essay writing competition comprised of three categories (i) School – Junior (Sec 1 – 2), (ii) School – Senior (Sec 3 – 5) and (iii) Open, and aimed to hone students’ techniques of continuous and situational writing in the following topics.
School – Junior (Sec 1 – 2)
Donor families can find hope in organ donation. What are your views?
An email to your aunt who has returned to her previous unhealthy lifestyle (e.g., drinking, smoking) after receiving a deceased donor living transplant, persuading her to take care of her health and the transplanted liver.
School – Senior (Sec 3 – 5)
Singapore’s conservative culture is the root cause of the country’s low organ donation rates. Discuss.
Email to your uncle who was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and has just started dialysis on why he should consider accepting your father’s offer to donate a kidney.
Open
Should organ donation be incentivised to increase the availability of organs for transplantation?
Organ donation is an important topic, yet it is rarely discussed amongst family members. Describe why it is an important topic and how one can initiate this conversation at an individual and community level.
The judging panel for LOF 2022 – Essay Competition comprised of: Ms Sally Kong (Deputy Director, NOTU, MOH), Mr William Phuan (Executive Director, Singapore Book Council), Dr William Wan (General Secretary, Singapore Kindness Movement), Assistant Professor Michelle Chiang (School of Humanities, Coordinator of the Medical Humanities Research Cluster, Nanyang Technological University) and Ms Judith Tan (Editor, The HomeGround Asia).
After two years of conducting the Awards Ceremony virtually, a physical Awards Ceremony was held on 13 August 2022 to celebrate the achievements of all the winners. Ms Gan Siow Huang (Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower) was invited to grace the Awards Ceremony. Ms Gan, along with A/Prof Dan Yock Young (Deputy Director of Medical Services, Ministry of Health) presented the awards to the winners.
